The Collegium Palatinum was established in 1958. It offers German Language Courses all year round, at all levels, for academic, personal and professional purposes to participants from all over the world who want to learn German in international groups or in private classes. Language instruction is based on the European Framework of Reference for Language Learning and Teaching ( CEF ). Collegium Palatinum language courses are conducted in German -right from the first lesson- by highly qualified and trained teachers who have experience working wiht people from various countries and backgrounds. The school is located in the historic city center of romantic Heidelberg, minutes away from the shopping streets, bars, restaurants, theatres and concert and music halls.

The Collegium Palatinum, listed as a national monument, is located in the historic city center of romantic Heidelberg, minutes away from the shopping streets, restaurants, bars, pubs, theatres and music halls. Heidelberg´s mysterious castle ruins and idyllic Old Town as well as its romantic location and landscape attracted the German Romantics in the 19th century. They moulded Heidelberg into a myth and eternalized the city with poetry, music and painting.Heidelberg is also home to Germany´s oldest university- founded in 1386. Today, Heidelberg´s historic charm mingles with state-of-the-art science and technology. It is a major business location and renowned for its music and film festivals. Openness and international atmosphere make Heidelberg the ideal place to study German.

German courses are offered at five levels from A1 to C1 ( beginner to advanced levels) and instruction is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning and Teaching(CEFR). General courses are held in the morning from 8.30 am. to either 12.00 am. or 13.00 pm. In addition, 2 or 4 afternoons are planned from 2 to 4 pm for the Intensive Plus and the compact course. Individual classes can be booked in addition to the general courses. Courses for beginners begin at fixed starting dates whereas participants with previous knowledge of German can join a course every monday after taking a German evaluation test to determine their language skills. Exam preparation courses last either 4 weeks ( TestDaF ) or 8 weeks ( telc ). A range of courses are offered upon request and according to the learning objectives and schedule of the learner. A course such as German & Music is designed for musicians. All courses emphasize the German culture and lifestyle to enrich the learning experience and are conducted by well trained and qualified teachers who hold university degrees and speak one or more languages themselves. German will be learned with authentic texts and in communicative situations. Our teaching staff will adapt instruction to your specific needs and objectives.

Homestay accommodation is with single room and a meal plan, either with breakfast or halfboard. The guest families are selected to match best with the profile of the participants. Participants are conveniently housed near public transportation, only max. 30 minutes away from school. It is ideal for those who want to practice the language and discover the german lifestyle. Accommodation in our student residence is offered with single or double rooms without a meal plan. Student rooms are conveniently furnished with a safe and W-lan access. Kitchens, WCs and showerrooms must be shared among participants.A computer lab can be used. The dormitory is three tram stops away from the central place Bismarckplatz.It is an ideal place to make international friends. Information on accommodation in hotels of all categories, pensions, guesthouses or in the youth hostels can be mailed or emailed to those who want to be independend during their study stay in Heidelberg.

Activities

Regular activities:  Orientation tour,guided visits of the Heidelberg castle,the historic Old Town, the local museums, the University museum with its historic students dungeon and the University library. Guided tours to big cities such as Frankfurt,Mannheim, Karlsruhe or Stuttgart and to typical small cities such as Schwetzingen, Bad Wimpfen,Bruchsal Dilsberg or Speyer. Walk to the philosopher´s lane, illumination and firework of the castle, walking tours, boattrips on the Neckar River, video afternoons, concert ands theatre venues, breakfast at school to get to know each other.
Possible activities:  All sports activities, trips to Munich or Berlin, music and film festivals.Wine tasting, touring local breweries, visits to flea markets.
All participants are encouraged to actively take part in the cultural and recreational activities organized by the Collegium Palatinum to enrich their learning experience and to discover the german culture and lifestyle. Heidelberg attracts tourists of all over the world and Collegium Palatinum participants can learn about the life, the people, the history and the culture of Southwest Germany. Heidelberg as a birthplace of philosophers and romantics, is home to Germany´s oldest university- founded in 1386. Participants can discover Heidelberg in a sea of vibrant colors and blossoms in spring, celebrate the Golden Autumn in fall and experience traditions of all senses before Christmas: candle light, the scent of fir trees, Christmas cookies and mulled red wine. Heidelberg is wellknown for its music and film festivals and theatre venues. Participants can share the vibrant atmosphere during highlights such as the Chamber Music festival, the Meditarrean film festival, the Heidelberg´s Spring music festival, Enjoy Jazz, the Heidelberg´s pieces market and days of Literature, the long night of the museums, the illumination of the castle with fireworks and the Christmas´s Fair. Sport events take place regularly and sport activities such as tennis, squash, swimming, horseriding and golf are available. Participants can train in fitness centers next to the school.
