ELS/Houston is affiliated with the University of St. Thomas (UST) and is located in a beautiful building in Houston's Museum District, across the street from the UST admissions office. Houston is America's fourth largest city and is the center of the energy industry and a main destination for international students. In addition to enjoying UST's facilities, ELS students may consider visiting the NASA Space Center Houston or one of the many cultural events and attractions around Houston. Gulf of Mexico beaches are nearby for weekend trips as is San Antonio, New Orleans and even the Mexico border.

ELS uses the proven communicative approach to language learning. This appropach makes for lively, interactive classes where students engage in a wide range of activities. Classes are held Mondays through Fridays during the daytime. The Intensive English Program (30 lessons per week) is a complete English program with classes including: Structure/Speaking Practice, Reading/Writing, Electives (including Conversation) and Multi-Media Lab. Our Semi-Intensive English Program (20 lessons per week) provides students with the opportunity to improve their English skills while exploring cities in the USA. The Semi-Intensive Program (morning only) classes include: Structure/Speaking Practice, Conversation, Electives and/or Multi-Media Lab. Electives vary by location but usually include TOEFL Preparation, American Idioms, Pronunciation, and others. [Note: 2 and 3 week abreviated study option also available upon request.] This location also offers private and combination private/group instruction through our Special Programs division. The Super-Intensive English Program is fully customized one-on-one instruction for 1 or more weeks (20, 30, 45 or other hours per week. The English for Executives Program combines 15 hours of group instruction with 15 hours of private customized instruction per week (30 lessons total per week) and is offered for 2 or more weeks.

An apartment-style student residence is within walking-distance of ELS and features shared double rooms in a two bedroom apartment with two bathrooms. Each apartment has a living/dining room, mini kitchen and 2 TVs. Internet access is available in apartments. No meals are included but can be purchased in the campus cafeteria or prepared in the apartments. Homestays feature single rooms living with an American family. Most homestays require a bus ride to reach the ELS Centers and students are responsible for their own transportation. Daily breakfast and dinner is included. Apartment options for Executives or families may be available upon special request.

Houston offers a variety of cultural attractions and nightlife. The immediate area around ELS and UST contains several restaurants and museums with free entrance. Houston is close to the Gulf of Mexico beaches for weekend trips as well as New Orleans and San Antonio.
