Cambridge International CollegeMelbourne, Australien The Language School
CIC campus is located in the central business district of the city, close to the restaurants and entertainment areas. It offers excellent access to public transport networks. Melbourne Central Train station is below us and tram stops out side our building. Melbourne's city circle free tram also stops outside CIC. Reasonable cost housing and restaurants are within walking distance.
The Location
Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, is one of the most cosmopolitan and multicultural cities in the world. It has a population of 3.5 million, making it the second largest city in Australia.
It is located on the Yarra River and Port Phillip Bay with its beautiful beaches and water sports facilities. It is a beautiful spacious city with many parks, gardens, and scenic places within easy reach of all people. Melbourne is a sport lover's paradise.
The Course Offerings
Our English preparatory courses (ELICOS) are some of the best in Australia.
We offer eight levels at present with twelve classes, ranging from Elementary to Advanced Level. Students take a test, on arrival, to find out their level, after which we place them in their class.
Students can choose to study for Certificates I, II, III or IV on a ten-week programme basis starting on either specific dates if on a student visa, or a less-intensive General English programme which allows students to start on any particular Monday.
As well as programmes for FCE, CAE, and PET we also have, exclusively in Melbourne, the Cambridge BEC (Business English) Programme. This is an excellent programme for those students keen to improve their business English skills. We also offer two Academic English classes.
English Activities
We also have a number of FREE after-class activities including a great twice-weekly “Conversation Club” where students from Melbourne University come to meet and talk in English with our students. This is an excellent way to meet Australian people. Many students use the club to make new Australian friends and the Conversation Club organises many regular activities including visits to the movies, cinemas, nightclubs, sporting events and BBQs.
Accommodation
CIC can arrange accommodation for students intending to live with local families. Each homestay offers: private bedroom with a desk breakfast, lunch and dinner daily (a packet lunch on week days), access to laundry facilities,
easy access to CIC by public transport, airport meeting service (fees apply).
Students are asked to give us some details about themselves including personal accommodation preferences. Using this information we are able to select and carefully match students to families.
Activities
CIC has a great programmme of after school activities.
They are open for all and usually start at 3:30 pm.
Activities over a typical week include: tennis, video, conversation club.
CIC offers its General English students an activity programme every Friday afternoon. This is usually a very reasonable cost. The objective of our activities is to provide students with opportunity to:
Practice their English in a social situation, make new friends with people from different countries and different cultures, visit places of interest in Melbourne.
Recent Activities Include:
Visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens, tour on board 'Puffing Billy' (scenic railway), Rollerblading in St. Kilda, I-Max 3D cinema, trip to Healesville Wildlife Park.
Other activities:
CIC runs other activities based on student demand such as: soccer, barbecues and picnics etc.
Sightseeing and other tours are widely available from local tour operators.
