Langues Sans Frontières (L.S.F.)Montpellier, Frankreich The Language School
Langues Sans Frontières was founded in 1995 in Montpellier in the south of France. Since it started, LSF has specialised in organising French language vacation courses for Juniors (11 to 17 years of age).
In 1998 LSF opened a year-round French language school for Adults (18+) in the centre of Montpellier, offering a full range of language and exam preparation courses as well as Work and Hotel Placements. Specific courses include a Master Class course for Seniors (50+) and French + Wine-tasting and French + Cooking courses. In partnership with Montpellier Handball, English + Handball courses are organised at Easter and in the summer for juniors.
All students have a choice of host family or residential accommodation, and LSF also organises a full programme of social, cultural and sporting activities, as well as excursions to local places of interest.
Today LSF welcomes over 1000 students aged 11 to 90 from more than 40 different countries to Montpellier each year.
The Location
The Course Offerings
On the first morning of the course you must be at the LSF school by 8H50. 1) If there are 6 or more student arrivals, you will take a written and oral placement test and then have a guided tour of Montpellier. 2) If there are 5 or fewer student arrivals, you will take the test and then be placed in class immediately at 9am. You will be in a multinational class appropriate to your level of French. Some classes may take place at the LSF annexe, about 10 minutes walk from the LSF permanent school, in very busy weeks. The Standard course is from 9H00-13H00 every weekday morning including a 30-minute break. Intensive courses also have two afternoon classes from 14H00 – 16H30, normally on a Tuesday and Thursday. Combiné courses have 2H30 of one-to-one lessons four afternoons per week from 14H00 – 16H30 (sometimes 14H00 – 16H30 or 16H30 – 19H00 in the peak summer months), as well as the Standard morning classes; Demi-Combiné courses have 2H30 of one-to-one lessons two afternoons per week from 14H00 – 16H30. For students who are having individual lessons only, your timetable will be discussed and decided with the teacher on the first Monday morning. If you wish to buy books to help with your course you may do so, although this is not obligatory since you will have use of LSF course materials.
Accommodation
RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION (summer season only, limited number of winter stays available)
The Residence Le Clemenceau is in the town centre only 10 minutes walk from the Place de la Comédie, the heart of Montpellier. Accommodation will be reserved for students in a single or shared ‘studio’ (there is only a very limited number of shared studios, allocated on a first-come first-served basis, but NO studios with double beds!), with en-suite shower, washbasin and toilet, fridge and small cooking area. There are cold and hot drink dispensers, as well as a laundry room with washing-machines and dryers (around € 4 per programme), available on the ground-floor. You must leave a cash deposit of €100 at the Residence reception on arrival; this will be returned to you on departure, except if you have lost your key, left your room unreasonably dirty or caused damage to your room. At the weekend the residence reception is open 9-12H and 14H30-18H; please inform us if you do not expect to arrive before 18H00 so that we can arrange for someone to be present to give you your key. Students requesting meals receive vouchers which they can use in nearby restaurants and cafés. Cooking utensils are available on request. If you lose your room key during your stay, a replacement will be provided on payment of € 15.
HOST-FAMILY ACCOMMODATION (all year round)
Accommodation will be reserved for adult students in single bedrooms on a first-come first-served basis- please note that we will try to accommodate your wishes and requests as much as possible, but cannot guarantee this at all times. We will try to place only one student speaking the same language per family, but this is not always possible in busy periods.
Your host-family will welcome you as a paying guest to their home and trust that you will respect their way of life. If you choose half-board accommodation you will have breakfast and evening meals with the family. Bed & breakfast accommodation speaks for itself, and self-catering accommodation means you have access to the kitchen and bathroom; you provide your own food and may not help yourself to any of the family’s food. Our host-families live in flats/villas in Montpellier itself, or in immediate surrounding areas. You should have no more than 30 minutes’ travelling time by bus to reach the LSF centre, although this is normally a lot less.
Activities
During the summer there is a full and varied activity programme in which you may participate on a pay-as-you-go basis. Throughout the year LSF will propose a limited number of activities, and LSF will do its maximum to organise these activities to suit your wishes. Typical activities organised may include welcome drinks in a local bar, a meal in a local restaurant, wine-tasting, bowling, ice-skating, visits to local museums, beach trips, excursions to local towns and places of interest…
