ELS/Chicago is situated in a residential area on the beautiful Dominican University campus, just 20 minutes from downtown Chicago. As the third largest city in the United States, Chicago offers a variety of culture including the Lyric Opera, Symphony Orchestra, world-famous Art Institute and an exciting nightlife ranging from blues and jazz to comedy clubs. Chicago's "Magnificent Mile" offers an international showcase of famous architecture, elegant shops and superb restaurants. Many students also enjoy Chicago's professional sporting events.

Courses:
Semi-Intensive English Program (year-round), Intensive English Program (year-round), American Culture Program (summer only).
ELS uses the proven communicative approach to language learning. This appropach makes for lively, interactive classes where students engage in a wide range of activities. Classes are held Mondays through Fridays during the daytime. The Intensive English Program (30 lessons per week) is a complete English program with classes including: Structure/Speaking Practice, Reading/Writing, Electives (including Conversation) and Multi-Media Lab. Our Semi-Intensive English Program (20 lessons per week) provides students with the opportunity to improve their English skills while exploring cities in the USA. The Semi-Intensive Program (morning only) classes include: Structure/Speaking Practice, Conversation, Electives and/or Multi-Media Lab. Electives vary by location but usually include TOEFL Preparation, American Idioms, Pronunciation, and others. The summer only American Culture program ($915 per 4 weeks) features 15 lessons per week in Structure/Speaking Practice and 1 American Culture seminar per week.

Homestays feature single rooms living with an American family. Most homestays require a short bus ride to reach the ELS Center although some are within biking or walking-distance. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the center. Daily breakfast and dinner is included during the week with lunches also included on weekends. On-campus dormitory is available to ELS students and features shared double rooms with community bathrooms (typical college dorm). Each room offers local telephone access. Single rooms may be available upon special request at an additional price. Most meals are included in the price and are taken at the campus cafeteria.

Regular activities:  ELS parties and campus activities (such as concerts, theater, films), use of campus facilities, etc.
Possible activities:  Chicago city tour, mall shopping trip, trips to Chicago museums or Navy Pier, zoo visits and picnics, professional sports games, Great Adventure Amusement Park trip.
Most students enjoy the many free or low-cost activities available on campus and like taking the short trip to Chicago for weekend fun. Chicago offers great nightlife and a huge variety of cultural attractions.
