Harven School of English

Harven, established in 1976, is the only year-round English language school in Woking. The school building is a large 1920\'s built house with its own garden. Our students tell us that they already knew about the excellent quality of the teaching before they arrived but that they were surprised and impressed by the family spirit of the school and the friendliness of the staff, students and homestays. Harven is an Oxford and Cambridge Examination Centre.

Woking, surrounded by the beautiful Surrey countryside, is a pleasant, modern town 27 minutes by diret train from central London (Waterloo) and 30 minutes by direct coach service from Heathrow airport. The school is set in a delightful residential area just 7 minutes’ walk from the town centre with its shopping centre, theatre, cinemas, bars and restaurants. Many sports facilities are available locally including 2 swimming pools, Squash, tennis, bowling, golf and horseriding.

Adult courses are available year-round. Students are expected to work hard and achieve results and they can choose from a variety of intensive lessons – group and/or tutorial – to match their individual learning needs and budget. Prices are from £160 per week for 20 lessons (15 hours). The school also offers a Foundation Course for university access (2 or 3 terms); an Academic English and Study Skills course (11 weeks); Intermediate IELTS preparation; Upper Intermediate IELTS preparation with examination (6 weeks); Cambridge examination courses and a special price for long-term students (minimum booking 26 weeks). Harven will help prepare students for other examinations such as TOEFL, GMAT, TOEIC, Trinity Spoken English etc. Summer Courses for all the family 27 June – 19 August 2004 Jet Set Course 8-13 years old This course has English tuition in the morning and activities in the afternoon. Students study for twenty lessons (fifteen hours) and have one half-day excursion and one full-day excursion each Saturday from 2 July to 13 August. Jet Set Junior students are placed in full board, homestay accommodation and given a packed lunch each school day. Students in Harven homestays are driven to and from school each day and are not allowed out alone at any time. This course costs £485 per week including accommodation. The Language & Leisure Course 13-17 years old Students study for twenty lessons (fifteen hours) each week and attend sports and social activities on weekday afternoons. There is a full-day excursion each Saturday from 2 July to 13 August and a disco each Friday night. The course includes full-board homestay accommodation (packed lunches on school days) and the Harven bus service to and from the school and the activities. Price £445 per week. Students can be collected by the Harven Chauffeur on arrival and departure, London Heathrow £51 per car each way, London Gatwick £66 per car each way. Unaccompanied students can be checked in by the school Chauffeur on departure, price £30 per student.

Friendly local homestay accommodation is organised by the school. Adult students have half-board accommodation (bed, breakast and evening meal) during the week and full-board at weekends. Homestays will do a reasonable amount of washing for the student each week. Travelling time to the school varies from 5 minutes walk to a short bus ride away and bicycles are avaible to hire.

Social activities include International Food parties at the school, trips to famous musicals, ballets etc at the local theatre, trips to local pubs, bowling, ice skating, excursions to the London Eye, Windsor, Oxford, Hampton Court, Brighton etc.
