Global Village English Centre Calgary

Established in 1995, SGV Calgary is now located in the North-West Travellers Building, one of the few heritage buildings in Calgary. Occupying the top three floors of the four story building, the school has been designed to provide students with an excellent environment in which to study and meet friends from around the world.Since we moved in January, 2003, our new location has given students an expanded capacity with 25 classrooms and a bigger student lounge in a completely renovated location! Included in the school's ultra-modern learning facilities are both a multi-media lab and a web-enabled classroom. This new location gives our students even better access to public transit with the Light Rail Transit only two blocks south. As well, the school is now in close proximity to the Calgary Public Library, Chinatown and the Eau Claire Market area.

It is known for its warm hospitality, lively western spirit, and fun year round activities. Banff and Lake Louise are popular destinations for activities, about a two-hour drive from Calgary.

We offer a wide variety of English language programs for international students, along with extra-curricular activities and accommodation services. The curriculum in all programs emphasizes the practical application of skills and concepts and is based on a student-centered approach to language instruction. SGV Directors meet on a regular basis to review academic and curricular issues related to the programs. This ensures high quality programs across all SGV schools. Our professional, organized programs are presented in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All students receive a full-day orientation (half day at SGV London Bromley and SGV Cape Town) on the official starting date. Each student receives personal attention from our qualified staff throughout their course of study.At the end of every session, students are tested and evaluated and Progress Reports are given to all students, who also receive a Certificate of completion and student awards. Shane Global Village offers quality homestay services for students who want to experience local culture in a safe and secure environment. The homestay programme includes:careful selection of families, computerized placement of students, 2-3 meals/day (depending on location), private room, laundry facilities, access to TV and telephone, professional counselling service, airport pick-up. Apartments, Residences, Hostels and Hotels: All Shane Global Village schools offer a variety of residential and apartment accommodation. Space may be limited. Day care services for the children of the students are also available in Honolulu.

We believe that student participation in a variety of recreational and cultural activities is central to a positive experience at the school. For each session, the Activities Coordinators organize cultural and recreational pursuits which are fun, entertaining and reflect the characteristics of the area: Beach volley in Hawaii, karting in Calgary. Various cultural and recreational activities are organized on a frequent basis with the participation of school staff. The number of participants may be limited in some activities and students should sign up early. Students are responsible for any extra fees. School parties and events: Each school organizes regular dance parties and all-school events with a variety of themes throughout the year.
