Cambridge is world famous for the excellence of its university and the magnificence of King's College Chapel. The centre of Cambridge is quite small and has the charm of a market town with numerous shops, colourful market stalls and picturesque old pubs. The town is rich in culture and has a wonderful historic atmosphere. You will find graceful, medieval architecture, lush green parks and numerous traditional pubs and trendy cafes along the riverside. The University of Cambridge is a collegiate university, meaning that there is no campus. Instead it is a collection of 31 colleges spread all over Cambridge, the oldest dating back to 1284. The colleges are the centre of academic life as students live, eat and have tutorials in the colleges. A leisurely punt down the river is an ideal way to explore the colleges as the river Cam gently flows past the majority of them. Although Cambridge is a small city with a population of 110,000 people (including 20,000 students) some 3.5 million people visit this fascinating city every year, attracted by the fame of the university and its historic buildings. Cambridge is easy to reach from London, which is less than an hour away.

The best way to practise your English and learn more about the traditions and way of life in the country where you are studying is to stay with a family. This also gives you plenty of opportunity to practise the language outside the classroom in an English speaking environment. EC's host families are all chosen for their caring attitude to our students. We visit all our families to ensure that they are warm, comfortable and friendly places to return to after a day at school. Your host family will provide you with breakfast and dinner throughout your stay and a packed lunch at the weekend. You can choose to stay in a single room, or in a twin room which you will share with another student. At all EC centres we can offer you a wide selection of alternative accommodation ranging from 3 to 5 star hotels or self-catering apartments ideal for a family.
