Kurus English is a premium language school in Cape Town, South Africa, providing rewarding opportunities for students to develop their competence in English as an international language. We offer progressive tuition, guiding our students to become clear, fluent and confident in the use of English for international purposes. Kurus English also provides unique, teacher-guided Language Excursions. Kurus English awaits you within the central business, historical and cultural districts of Cape Town – in sight of Table Mountain and close to the sea. Our school is handsomely housed in a National Heritage Building; a beautiful and entirely appropriate home and setting for any language-learning endeavour.

Opportunity Programmes 1, 2 and General English begin on each and every Monday morning throughout the year. Opportunity 3 Examination Preparation, is offered three times a year, depending on the examination dates in Cape Town. Dates for Opportunity 4 are entirely flexible, and are available on request. At Kurus English, each lesson is of 50 minutes' duration, with a maximum of 8 students per class in three to six different English levels (Beginner to Advanced). Kurus English is a school for adult education and therefore open to everyone aged 18 years and over. As an exception, we welcome parents and their children (minimum age 16). Our English lessons are based on existing and internationally-respected teaching and learning materials, such as Oxford University Press’ Headway series. These courses are mediated and modelled by English native language teachers and provide the framework for the teaching and learning of English as an international language. In addition, we draw on authentic materials from local, Cape Town, South African, African-continental and global sources; these include, materials from books, newspapers, internet, etc. and provide unique and culturally-related content.

We have a fine network of selected, progressive and open-minded Host Families who will make you feel at home and who will give you an additional opportunity to experience Cape Town, its culture and its people. In addition, we have the contacts to exclusive Guesthouses and Hotels, close to our school. We can match all your requests in every price category.

Kurus English combines the learning of English with building meaningful awareness of cultural diversity. This can be achieved by combining classroom-based English lessons with an integrated and practical language, culture and discovery programme. In short, Kurus English offers a morning class which aims, in best practice, to develop and improve our students’ international English competence. Here, intensive classroom-based courses will be integrated with a Language Excursions in the afternoon. Our Language Excursions give our students the opportunity to meet the people of Cape Town and to practice their English authentically, in a real-life context. This helps our students to improve their confidence in using the language!
