Eastbourne is a great place to stay. You will experience all the advantages of living in a typical English seaside resort while being just over an hour by train from the excitement of London. After lessons you will have free access to the multi-media centre with student internet access, library and coffee bar. There is also plenty to do in town. Eastbourne has four excellent golf courses, a sports centre, fascinating shops, restaurants and bars, the famous Eastbourne pier and, of course, the sea. Whether its Buckingham Palace, St Pauls Cathedral, Madame Tussauds, or the theatre in the West End, you will never be short of something to see or do in London. All the shopping, sight seeing and entertainment you could wish for are all within easy reach of your school. Located in the thriving suburb of Lewisham in South East London, the school is just 10 minutes by train from London Bridge and only a five minute DLR tram ride from Greenwich, one of the main tourist attractions in London. In addition, Blackheath, the starting point for the famous London marathon, is but a five minute walk from the school. There are also regular bus services to most parts of the city centre and its suburbs.

We have tried to make the programmes and courses detailed on this website easy to understand and tailored to the needs of the ever-changing demands in today’s world. Choosing a course has never been easier, whatever your need, age, language level or ability, you will find what your looking for with the English Centre. As an example - English 19: In addition to three morning lessons each day which will follow course book materials, The Effective Speaking course includes a further four hours of tuition each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Friday afternoons are free. These lessons will concentrate entirely on speaking practice. You will work on improving your fluency and accuracy as well as increasing your confidence. Lower levels will initially focus on survival language for everyday use on public transport, in shops, bars and restaurants, language for making new friends and using the telephone. Higher levels will learn new language with more complex terminology and this will be exercised with lively discussions on topical issues, debates and presentations

Most of our students choose to stay with one of our carefully selected Host Families. All our families are regularly inspected and have experience in welcoming and looking after our students. We offer three types of Host Family accommodation.

Throughout the year The English Centre organises a busy programme of excursions, events and outings for our students. The social programme is for you to enjoy so if you have any suggestions while you are staying with us by all means come and tell us. Taking part in the various activities arranged by our staff is the best way to settle in and start having fun in your free time. There are lots of interesting things to do and see in Eastbourne and our regular excursions will take you to visit other parts of England during your stay. We organise trips to the fascinating University city of Oxford and to London, video film shows at the school, barbecues and parties in our own gardens, pub, cinema and disco evenings and much more. Eastbourne Pier is a popular local attraction with its restaurants, amusement arcades, boat trips, pubs and clubs. Eastbourne has plenty to offer those with sporting interests. There is an excellent sports center and indoor swimming pool as well as a choice of golf courses, horse riding stables, tennis courts and of course, the sea!
