The classes of the Koinè Centre are held in Palazzo Borghese, a Renaissance palace completely rebuilt in the 19th century in the neoclassical style by Prince Borghese. A bar/restaurant in the centre is open from 8:00 to 15:00, offering students breakfast and lunch at reduced prices. There is a collection of more than 100 films on VHS available for students’ use in the afternoon. Moreover a fax and an E-mail service is available in the school office, and an Internet point that the students can use with a card sold at the office. A wine and gourmet information office named Vinarium is available to recommend restaurants and advise you on the purchase of Tuscan wines as well as offer wine tastings, cookery courses and visits to farms. On the first day students will receive a folder containing the monthly program of activities and excursions, a small guide with useful addresses in Florence, and a list of exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events which will take place during the course. Furthermore, every student will receive a Koinè card which will allow them free entrance to discoteques and reduced prices at bars and theatres.

Florence is a city of culture: Culture of the past with its infinite examples of Renaissance splendor; culture of the present showcased in exhibitions of contemporary painting, sculpture, cinema, and fashion. The Koinè Center is headquartered in the historic center of Florence, between Piazza Duomo and Piazza Santa Croce (bus 14 or 23 from the main train station or 10 minutes on foot). The address is Via de' Pandolfini, 27. It's just a few hundred meters from the Sant'Ambrogio market and the flea market. Many popular bars and restaurants are found in this area, and the University of Florence and the largest public libraries in the city are within walking distance.

The group course is our most common activity. Within a class of no more than 12 students, you will be learning Italian through guided conversation exchanges with other participants from all over the world. The classes concentrate on the spoken language that you will encounter in daily life in Italy. The Koinè method involves active participation in conversations, dialogues, games, and class readings. In addition to the four hours of group tuition in the morning, it is possible to attend a one-to-one afternoon lesson of two hours with a teacher, in which you will have the chance to sort out any particular learning problem and deal with your specific interests. This kind of course enables you to get a grasp of general linguistic notions through a group and exchange work in the morning, whereas the afternoon lesson is dedicated to the subject or the linguistic register the single participant needs to learn. Individual intensive lessons are offered for those with a personal or professional interest in the Italian language and with time restrictions. The Koinè Centre offers a free of charge accommodation booking service for the duration of the language course. When you fill in our registration form, please choose the accommodation you prefer. Seven days before the starting date of your course, we'll send you all the information you need about your accommodation. Single and double rooms with shower or bathroom and linen service are available. Breakfast, half board, and kitchen facilities are optional . Rooms are rented from families, single persons, and students in the city centre. Single participants who request accommodations in a double room will be placed with other students.
