TANDEM Hamburg International Language School

TANDEM Hamburg, founded in 1985, offers German language courses in Hamburg, and also foreign language courses here and at partner institutions in Italy, France, England, Ireland, Canada, Spain, Argentina and Chile. A tandem partner exchange is a good way to increase your skills. It may also be interesting for you, especially if you intend to work or study in Germany, that we are an accredited examination centre for both TestDaF and the European language Certificates (TELC). Hamburg is Germany's second city, and many say it's also the nicest. TANDEM is situated right in the heart of the city centre, close to the river Elbe and a ston's throw from the city's major attractions! You'll like it here. In our intensive classes, you will speak German right from the start - and they're fun, too! We have only 5 to 12 students per class and offer 20 lessons of 45 mins/week. The courses run Monday through Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m.. From 3 weeks they include a free TANDEM learning partnership. Levels: A1 (Elementary & Beginner 1), A2 (Beginner 2), B1 (Pre-Intermediate), B2 (Intermediate), C1 (Upper Intermediate), C2 (Advanced) You can start any Monday - for elementary students, however, special dates - once a month - apply.

"Moin!" Don't be confused: That's not just Hamburg German for "good morning", but a general "Hello" and "Welcome", so you'll hear it all day and at night, too. Hamburg, the green city with its beautiful Alster Lake right in the middle, the big international port by the river Elbe, the cultural centre of the north, is near the 'Wattenmeer' at the North Sea and the seaside resorts of the Baltic Sea, close to the Lüneburg Heath, and not far from Berlin or Copenhagen. Our language school TANDEM Hamburg is situated in Hamburg’s city centre, on the border between the New Town and the Old Town on the historic Inner Harbour. We are overlooking a canal, the ‘Herrengrabenfleet’, only a stone’s throw from the river Elbe, surrounded by water. Hamburg’s youngest part of town, the ‘Harbour City’ with the new concert house, the ‘Elbphilharmonie’, and, close to it, the historic warehouse district ‘Speicherstadt’, lie within spitting distance from the school. Walk for a few minutes in the other direction, and you will find yourself in front of St Michael’s church, the ‘Michel’, Hamburg’s landmark. And we have a lot more on offer in our neighbourhood: The old piers ‘Landungsbrücken’, the Portuguese Quarter, the Reeperbahn, historic Deichstraße, the city hall and Hamburg’s inner city – TANDEM is in the midst of it all! We offer intensive classes, certificate courses (Zertifikat Deutsch, Mittelstufenprüfung and TestDaF), evening classes on business German, phonetics and spelling as well as weekend seminars on job application training. You will meet people from Europe, America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and of course us, the locals! Your TANDEM exchange partner will help you understand us better.

Single rooms in a private home together with one, two, or more other German, often these are studens. Bath and kitchen are shared, self-catering. This very popular way of life in Germany offers an excellent opportunity for both using the foreign language German, and getting to know people. Single room with a German family, with children or without. Self-catering. Half board is available, too. We offer hotel rooms on request. Accommodation costs for hotel rooms in Hamburg start at EUR 35.00 per night.

There are hundreds of things to do in the afternoons. In the summer we organise outings and excursions to places of interest, we throw parties, take you on visits, cultural attractions and exhibitions, and show you why the people of Hamburg like their town so much. And Hamburg doesn't close down at night! There are many theatres and cinemas; the club scene is big here, there's live music everywhere as well as dance halls and discos for all tastes.
